Crew: Eduardo, Dean, Geoff.
Wednesday 9th Sept
We woke to a beautiful calm morning in Ngaruru Bay after yesterday’s Cook Strait crossing. We were rafted up on the club mooring together with Tamerlane, Expresso and Grenadier.

After a relaxing breakfast we released our lines and started motor-sailing up Tory Channel.

The northerly breeze picked up as we rounded Dieffenbach Point and we hoisted the jib to enjoy a leisurely sail down Queen Charlotte Sound together with Tamerlane.

There were lots of birds around, so we put out the fishing line, but there were no bites, except for a lump of kelp!

We sailed into Picton and tied up at the visitors jetty.

After purchasing our visitors’ card, we wandered over to the Seabreeze Cafe for a coffee and then up Main Street to the Big Fresh supermarket to get some supplies for dinner. Dean has invited us and the other crews to visit his bach at Fence Bay for a BBQ.
We motored across Queen Charlotte Sound and down into Onahau Bay, then into lovely Fence Bay where Dean has a nice floating jetty as well as a mooring in front of his bach. Grenadier and Tamerlane rafted up on the mooring, while Halo and Expresso tied up on either side of the jetty.

A great evening was enjoyed by all.

Thursday 10th Sept
We woke to a rather wet, misty but calm morning in Fence Bay. After breakfast Eduardo and I cast off (Dean stayed at the bach) and we motored over to Picton.

Eduardo then disembarked from Halo to catch the Bluebridge ferry back to Wellington.
After a coffee I had wander around Picton and checked out the construction of the new interisland ferries wharf.

After lunch on board Halo I motored round the The Snout to Waikawa. It was raining and breezy by the time I entered the Waikawa Marina. Niki who runs the marina office helped me with my lines as I had to move the boat from the berth I was originally booked into.
That evening I joined Rob, Denise, Jane and Remy for a yummy dinner on Expresso. Thanks Denise!
