Quick Slip – 2 Feb 2021

Crew: Geoff.

Forecast: Southerly 10-15 knots. Sea slight. Fine.

Motored Halo round to Evans Bay arriving at the slip and onto the travel lift at 1345 hrs. Hull was in pretty good condition since the last clean six months ago in September. Most growth was under the keel, and rudder, around the prop and shaft, and on the thru-hulls. Gave the hull a good wash with a soft broom. Needed to use a scraper to clean the barnacles off the prop and shaft. Inspected the zinc anode – looks good for another six months.

Cast off from the slip at 1445 hrs. While motoring back I noticed that the speed thru water (STW) instrument was now reading approx 2 kts faster than GPS speed (SOG) so I recalibrated it so that they now match.

Also tested the Auto Tiller tracking to a waypoint set from OpenCPN. Seems to work well now. I did notice though, that to keep the boat going straight ahead the tiller needed to be always steering about 7 degrees to the left. Same when hand steering. Refer photo below. Needs further investigation.
