New VHF Radio – 8 Dec 2016

Purchased and installed replacement VHF radio. Connected 12V Power and External Speaker.

Also connected NMEA Data from the GPS so that radio now displays position in latitude and longitude as well being able to transmit location in case of making an emergency DSC call.

Digital Selective Calling is a method of transmitting messages via VHF using the red button on the radio. Unfortunately Maritime New Zealand don’t officially support DSC on VHF but at least the alarm signal would be picked up by all boats within range who have their radio turned on – irrespective of which channel they are listening to.

Called Maritime Radio for radio test and they reported excellent signal!
