Crew: Peter, Eduardo, Geoff
Marine Forecast: Northeast 20 knots. Rain developing.
Today was meant to be race 2 in the EBYMBC Winter Series but was cancelled due to lack of boats. The weather put them off. Wind reading at 9am this morning was 10 kts in Chaffers and 15 kts at Wellington Airport so we went out for a sail anyway and had a great day out on the harbour. We should have won the race by default as the only starter!
Departed Chaffers Marina at 1142 hrs with No. 1 Reef in the Mainsail and the No. 3 Jib hanked up. With wind 11-15 kts we beat across the harbour at around 6 kts with Peter on helm. Sea was fairly rough with some nice heeling action and a few good sized waves breaking over the bow. Exciting stuff!
Did a couple of tacks before stopping in the lee of Soames island at the club mooring. After a break for lunch and a cuppa we headed towards the Ngauranga top mark buoy with Eduardo on helm. Then turned south downwind with the Jib Goose-winged with the spinnaker pole. Wind was getting up to 20 kts and we were racing at speeds up to over 7 kts.
Arrived back at Chaffers berth at 1538 hrs.
